Hoffle
Voice chat for your friends, minus the Nitro upsell.
Hoffle is a free, open-source Discord alternative for small groups: voice rooms, 1080p screen sharing with sound, music everyone hears at the same time, and a D&D table. It started life as Huddle, a chat server for my friends running off a desktop in my room, and grew into something anyone can use in the browser, on the desktop, or on their own server.

Four themes, one app
Real screenshots of the same channel in four of Hoffle's themes. Click any of them for the full-size version.
On your phone
No app store involved: open it in your phone's browser and add it to the home screen. Notifications come through ntfy, so mentions, DMs and calls arrive with the app closed and without a Big Tech account.
What's in it
Voice & screen sharing
Noise suppression that runs on your own device, 1080p60 screen sharing with the game or film audio, push-to-talk that keeps working while a game has focus, spatial audio, and a Clip button that saves the last 30 seconds.
Music together
One queue for the whole room. The room publishes a single playback position and everyone is nudged onto it, so you all hear the same second of the same song. Plus watch-together, a whiteboard, Draw & Guess and a soundboard.
D&D night
Battlemaps with tokens and fog of war, 3D dice with real physics rolled where everyone can see them, and a spell and monster compendium, so nobody has to leave the call to look something up.
Chat that keeps up
Threads, replies, reactions, custom emoji, stickers, GIFs, voice messages, polls, events with RSVPs, and search with from:, in: and has: operators.
Your Discord bots
Hoffle speaks the Discord bot API, so bots written with discord.js or discord.py connect without changes, and a bridge mirrors the channels you still keep on Discord.
Yours, on purpose
No paid tier, no ads, no trackers. It is AGPL-3.0, and a single docker compose command runs your own copy; everything lives in one folder that you back up by copying it.
Want in?
chat.hoffle.online is invite-only for now. If a friend is already on it, ask them for a code, or mail me. Or host your own: the first account on a new server becomes its owner and can invite everyone else.
How it's built
React 19 on the Next.js App Router, running as a Cloudflare Worker that never actually goes near Cloudflare: Wrangler serves it locally in one Docker container, with SQLite for data and the disk for uploads. Presence, voice signalling and the shared music clock live in a single Durable Object. Voice is peer-to-peer WebRTC, with a coturn relay for friends behind carrier-grade NAT and LiveKit taking over when a room outgrows the mesh. The music and D&D bots run as separate containers that only Hoffle can reach, and there are desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux.
